The all-new ECM1-24 Pin Mill by Inter-Motion Manufacturing
is one-step closer to production, as the reinforced steel base weldment was flipped over
and poured full of a vibration-reducing high strength custom composite. The Pin
Mill rips material from a cast-iron crankshaft, in a process called “chasing the
pin.” This will allow engine and compressor manufacturers to mill the pin
journal more efficiently with less cost and with more accuracy than turning the
pin.
The next step for the ECM1-24 will be to precision machine
all critical surfaces on the base, and then assembly will begin.
Stay tuned for more updates on this unique machine. Watch a video of the base being poured on the Inter-Motion YouTube channel.
