Landis 4R Crank Pin Grinder

Project 926 was a rebuild for a small engine manufacturer in the midwest United States - this Landis machine grinds the pin for small engine crankshafts. The grinder was disassembled and inspected, then the grinding wheel slide and grinding wheel dresser were rebuilt. All electrical systems were replaced, including an Allen-Bradley ControlLogix controller and all new servo motors. Load monitoring software was developed and installed to detect excessive load, and light curtains were added for starting sequence and operator safety. Lube, hydraulic, pneumatic, and coolant systems were all rebuilt as well. Run-off tests were completed 17 weeks after receiving the machine at the Inter-Motion plant. Final cost was approximately half the price of a new machine.
